There are countless styles of clothes all over the world. What can be deemed as fashion really. When we think about it? It’s got something to do with what catches on with the general consumer. Most of the time this is now done through celebrities. Wearing certain clothes that are made by high tailor designers. It’s also due to the fact that many young women need inspiration in their outfit choices. Although it’s not always healthy to wear what someone else is wearing purely for the sake of it, it can breathe new life into one’s wardrobe.

But what actually constitutes or warrants a new piece becoming a part of your selection in the first place? It could be the fact that a piece fits your personal dress sense, to begin with. This could be because of a range of colors. It could be the style or influence the item is exhilirating. Or because you want it for a special occasion. All of these are valid reasons but what if you went one step further by making specific choices? Instead of sticking to one kind of style. Mixing and matching will always open you up to new options. With different ways of approaching fashion. To get this to work for you. One of the most basic steps is to give your wardrobe a yin and yang feel. For everyone one item you’re comfortable with, have another that pushes the boundaries a little bit. Get creative and start to take some risks!

A City-Friendly Neutral Dress

Dresses are like the do-all category. This item of clothing has evolved for thousands of years. From the humble days of the toga to the now diamond encrusted evening gowns worn by the rich and famous. They are a fantastic style choice for anyone as they allow for so much creativity. How they are cut at the neck, chest, hips, waist and hem makeup what kind of dress you’re wearing. The styles are so varied that it can be difficult to pick something that would suit your body type.

So how could you possibly make your wardrobe have both a neutral and more expensive dress? The Carmen dress is quite a comprehensive type of dress that can be worn every day such as to work, to the shops, attending to family errands and more. Its unique features will be that of a high neckline as it’s not focussing too much on the shape of your bosom. It will be knee length, but variations depend on that part as you can get slightly shorter takes of this dress. The dress can be both snug and loose; it depends on what you’re after. A snug fit will be more inclined to people who work in a business where a tort dress sense is more accepted. It is double lined which tells you it’s made to be rugged and used to the hustle of highly populated cities. As the tone is lending more toward the professional lifestyle, you’ll find this dress in bold colors, such as black, blue, white and grey; neutral works best for this style.

A Classic With An Explosion Of Color

To offset any new addition to your wardrobe that might be neutral and composed of a neutral vibe, an explosion of color is warranted. Going by the yin and yang manner, for every clothing item that is more conservative and or subtle, there should be a balance of outlandishness and vibrancy. Leather jackets are always in fashion. It’s just one of those rare things that just never seems to be ‘out’. This is because this piece of clothing hasn’t evolved so much that it’s unrecognizable. Leather is still a rugged material that is made to be tough and withstand the natural elements.

Doing away with the usual, brown and black colors, leather jackets are now part of the wider color spectrum. You can buy leather jackets in explosive colors such as pink, baby blue, daffodil yellow, Ferrari red, typical 80s white, green as grass as many more. Women’s leather jackets, as opposed to men’s, are conscious of the fact that they should be hugging the lines of your figure. This can be done easily if the jacket is shorter in length.

Putting It In To Pull It Off

Not everyone feels comfortable with a dresser or drawer full of accessories. They may not have the confidence to pull of bracelets and rings to name a few. Other times, some outfits simply don’t need accessories. All too often you can see people who add things to their outfit they don’t need, and it diminishes the aim they were trying to achieve. Therefore sometimes thinking outside the box. Leaving the social norms of what can be deemed an accessory helps to build your style.

Instead of say earrings and the like. How about hair extensions that allow you to make a fuller and bouncy appearance to your style? Not only will they add thickness where it’s needed. But they can go well with styles that you wouldn’t be able to pull off otherwise. You have the added option of keratin bonds, glue-ins, clip-ins, beaded wefts in different colors and forms. Rather than getting a two-tone coloring at the salon. You can blend your darker hair with bleach blonde to match let’s say a pale or neutral color clothing item. The brand you choose is going to be important to actually pulling it off. So check the strands are high quality. Which will determine the weight and breadth of the hair. when it is spread across your own.

The Unusual Flashy Accessory

If you’re not quite into the usual accessories. A good yin to your yang would be a nose piercing. You don’t need to get your nose pierced. In order to wear this kind of accessory. You can buy nose rings that simply clip onto your nose and don’t create discomfort inside your nostrils. Bear in mind you can go quite creative with this as nose piercings sit happily in the jewellery genre too. If you want your nose accessory to stand out, it’s better to get it made out of metal, and preferably polished iron or stainless steel.

The Opposite Of Norms

In a rather peculiar way, shoes have become more and more outlandish in every category. Business or dress shoes have stayed much the same, but they have created a tear-away style. Smarter heels are now taking the style of professional and or evening heels and getting more creative. Sometimes you just can’t evolve something without breaking what it was first intended to do. Therefore these new forms of pumps heels are bringing back the style of the 70s. Vibrant and glossy. They can be made from leather, suede, and fabrics. Such as nylon and even faux fur.

Think of a yin and yang approach to your wardrobe as not something that is focussing on opposites. Rather this kind of undertaking is to find where you can mismatch but keep the styles of your choice intact. With just one piece of your outfit breaking the lines of the overall style. This way you can conservatively yet very creatively step outside the boundaries.

Taking a long flight has its perks and downfalls. While it’s exciting traveling to a new place, the flights can sometimes become dull and irritating. I like to keep as busy as possible on a flight, making it go by faster and keeping me calm. Some of my favorite tips keep my mind and hands distracted. I also have tips for flying with a pet here!

Candy + Meal Time

If you’re lucky enough to fly first class, they will obviously include your meals. When I’m flying coach, I like to bring something packaged that will last a few hours before being eaten. No matter which class I’m flying, I also love to bring lots of candy and gum! This gives me something to secondarily focus on. Keeping my mind occupied. Whether I’m reading a magazine, watching a movie, or on my phone. I find snacking or chewing gum distracts me for at least a little while. Plus its yummy. Win-win.

Reading Material

I switch up reading material from books to magazines. I like to purchase a few magazines to read in case there’s no Wifi on the flight for some reason. The magazine keeps me busy while the excitement of the flight dies down. Once I’m bored with reading those, I’ll take a break and work from my phone/laptop or watch a movie. Once I’m bored with the digital world, I’ll go back and read a book. This takes my mind away  from the plane and once again, distracts me from the oh-so-boring flight. I normally bring a book with me and purchase magazines at the airport. However, I should purchase both beforehand to save money. Convenience gets the better of me.

Digital Distractions

If you’re blessed with Wifi on the flight, this can consume your entire trip. Without ever needing another distraction. Hello social media. JetBlue now actually offers FREE Wifi on every single one of their flights. Hallejulah. I like to bring my MacBook for work, when switching off from my phone. Having both keeps me the busiest. I also do this when working from home, so it’s a normal situation. There are also movies on most flights now. I like to time my flight by watching movies too. For example, I’ll read for as long as I can. Then watch a movie (about 2 hours down), then have a snack/meal, distract with my phone/laptop then watch another movie (2 more hours cut off). This honestly makes the time fly by. (No pun intended, or was it?)

Keep Moving

I get up to stretch my legs, stand up a bit, and use the ladies room every 1-2 hours. This helps circulation as well as keeping the body busy. I normally get extremely restless on flights and need to move around when possible. I love the aisle seat because of this reason! I don’t recommend doing this if you have a middle or window seat. Unless you don’t mind disturbing your fellow seat mates.

Sleep It Off

Some people can fall right asleep on flights. This is especially true for red eyes. I have always wished I could sleep on flights. I normally end up falling half asleep, and then waking up in a jolted gasp with a few people looking over at me. (Embarrassing). Consequently, I personally do not like to sleep on flights and prefer a day time trip. But I do know plenty of people who will sleep for most of the journey as if it was nothing. So, if you can sleep in public, then definitely do so. You will wake feeling refreshed and have extra energy for the trip ahead.

This red topic came to light in my thoughts after a self-described Christian described a conspiracy theory one night. The theory, about halfway through, mentioned something about lust, good vs. bad, heaven and hell. Immediately my brain started paying attention again. This triggered my emotions deeply. Is lust bad? Are any of the “deadly sins” actually bad? For us, or the people around us? Let’s dive into this one sin by one.

red short sleeve midi dress

Lust: A natural human desire, created in our bodies, designed for humans to procreate. Without lust, there would be no desire to expand our community. While, we may mate as other animals do; humans were lucky enough to be gifted with pleasure. So why is this considered sinning?

Gluttony: Sure, some of us may over eat, indulge, or satisfy a craving. But is craving food bad? Is letting yourself taste what you desire truly a negative action? Yes, it may result in being overweight and unhealthy if taken advantage of. But who the fuck are you to judge another person for what they eat?

Greed: What I also like to call motivation, inspiration, drive, being a boss, the list goes on. Greed drives us to work harder for what we want. If we didn’t have greed, we would all be contently satisfied with a boring, dull life. Enough said.

Sloth: The avoidance of physical or spiritual work. I don’t know about you, but when I’m feeling a bit sloth-like, I’m probably depressed on some level or incredibly overwhelmed with the amount of things going on in my life. It’s healthy to take a break, or a lazy day when needed. But relaxing on the couch day in and day out, with no goals, hobbies, or work… that may be a problem.

Wrath: An emotion. Another natural human emotion stemming from birth. If I met a person who was happy and content with themselves, their lives, and the actions/people around them all of the time – I would not be okay with that. Being angry is a natural state. If we didn’t know what anger was and learn what is appropriate to act on, and what isn’t, there would be no knowledge of what life felt like when we weren’t angry.

Envy: Compared yourself to others can easily contribute to bringing yourself down, and fast. But that’s not to say, that being envious of others can’ drive, motivate, or inspire you to be a better person. To be your best self, go after what you want, take slivers of what you like that another person has and apply it to your life. Envy, spite, and vengeance has been some of my biggest motivators. You may or may not realize it, but it’s probably one of yours too.

Pride: Last but not least. What is pride? Being proud. Since when is being proud of your accomplishments, assets, yourself, your goals, work ethic, hobbies, lifestyle – a bad thing? I sure as hell have a lot of pride. Let me tell you, being proud of myself and my life has also strengthened me to grow into a better person. It has also driven me, amongst many of these other devastatingly deadly sins.

Conclusion: In my opinion, these ‘sins’ are only deadly if they affect yourself or another person negatively. As long as you are happy, content, and live a satisfying life you love, you do you boo.

I’ve been neglecting the blog a bit due to some technical difficulties this week. My MacBook was running soooo slow, it took me 4 days to edit 1 video. Yikes! I’ve also been thinking about bringing physical products into the mix. Selling directly to you, via an online boutique. Let me know what you think in the comments and answer the poll below. If you trust my style advice enough to buy from me, I want to know!!

Anyways, I wanted to throw in a little pink to my wardrobe recently. I tend to do this in the colder, cloudier months, like the dead of winter. The bad weather tends to bring me down a bit, so the pink helps cheer me up! Besides, pink is the cutest.

This pink blouse featured was one of those items that gave me an “aha” moment. That moment when you fall in love with fashion all over again. You remember why you love clothes in the first place, and forget the horrible impact they have on society and the environment. So yes, I had one of those blissful shopping moments. The voluminous sleeves are just too fun and remind me of a garment made for dancing salsa.

I paired this hot pink blouse with my favorite pair of skinny jeans, new black flats and a pearl necklace to keep the look equally feminine. Now that I’m looking at it, this blouse would look sooo cute with matching pink trousers, or white jeans. Maybe even my high waisted, wide leg pants…. You see what a new favorite blouse can do? It definitely gets my creative juices going.

Oh…. I know that pink isn’t meant to be a winter color, and people kind of stare, wondering why I’m wearing it. But, who cares what season we’re in? If you like it, wear it!
