Packing Tips 101

I don’t know about you but when I pack – even if it’s for a week long trip – I want to bring my entire closet so that I have every option available in case of a style emergency. Although this rarely happens, I like to be prepared. Below are my favorite packing tips and tricks I use, every trip I try to bring less! (I’m tired of the baggage fees honestly).ย IMG_1601

  1. Roll clothes, do not fold them. This will ensure your clothes don’t wrinkle as much and you will have more space!
  2. Pack liquids in 3oz. containers for your carry on and put the larger items in your luggage. This will help you get through security swiftly.
  3. Make a packing list. This may sound silly, but it will help the morning of when you forget your toothpaste or razor. Check off as you go to make sure you have everything you need.
  4. Research your airline’s fees. This will help you cut that $100 weight overage charge and let you know if you can bring an additional carry on.
  5. Wash clothes on the go. Washing clothes while you are traveling, even if it’s at a laundromat, will help when you have less laundry to do when you get home.
  6. Bring layers. If the weather is warm enough not to need a bulky coat, I suggest bringing a sweater or two for chilly nights, and denim, along with your necessities.
  7. Pack with comfort in mind. When traveling you may want to ditch the heels (unless you have a big night out planned) and bring only a couple pair of comfortable shoes. This is always hard for me, but I try to bring at least two pair of flats and/or sneakers. This also gives you more room in your suitcase.
  8. Never check important items. I always wear jewelry I’m bringing and keep anything essential on my person or carry on. If your baggage is lost, this will ensure you have everything you need.
  9. Pack an extra outfit in your carry on. This is an old trick, but if you are going away for a while and will need a lot of items, its important to have an emergency spare. Especially if your luggage is lost. (I once had an entire bag of shoes lost – learn from my mistakes!)
  10. Have fun! Don’t forget to put away your phone, tablet, and laptop and enjoy the scenery. You’re vacationing for a reason!
