For as long as I can remember, I’ve always loved vintage, classic fashion. That old Hollywood vibe, the Audrey Hepburn classic looks from Pretty Face. The classic glamour that never goes out of style. Finding an original, incredibly unique piece that I will love forever is better than anything fast fashion can give me. Think of a designer bag you’ve been coveting for months, a fur coat, diamonds and pearls. This is why I love thrift shopping. If done right, the best statement pieces can be found.

Thrift Location

Location is everything when done right! For instance, in Rhode Island, you can find a decent amount of findings. Head to the city of Providence, and there are better thrift shops. But, in New York, or California, where more people have designer, luxury, high-end items, there is so much more. My last trip in New York, I came across a Dolce & Gabbana gown for $500 at a thrift shop. I’m still kicking myself for not buying it. It was a one of a kind piece! The top was strapless, while the corset fit like a glove. Under the bone corset top, the gown flared out into a beehive silhouette. It was honestly one of the most gorgeous, perfectly fitting dresses I’ve ever come across. (I’m also really wishing I had taken a picture…) Anyways! If you go to a well-to-do area of town, there will be more expensive finds that were taken care of as well.  Research thrift stores beforehand and have an idea of where you will go and in what time frame.

Negotiate

Thrift shop owners are thrifty themselves! They want the best deal they can get and of course want to sell their items. Don’t be afraid to talk the owner down on price. For instance, a $200 Burberry scarf could be talked down to $160. Especially if you mention you are out of town and won’t be able to come back. A Louis Vuitton bag can also be talked down by 10-20% if you mention authenticity. I was able to talk down a thrift store owner 10% because I made a fuss about the bag not having papers. Which brings me to my next tip…

Authenticity

This can be very difficult for many brands. The quality of real leather is usually better than faux. Although faux leathers and fur are becoming less easy to catch, real leather and fur can be felt. Real leather should feel dry, not oily, or slippery. Louis Vuitton is one of the easiest designers to verify authenticity. If papers aren’t available this is important to know. Check the monogram design – it should match, or be a duplicate of itself, on either side of the seams. The seams should also be of quality, and even.

Dry Cleaning

If you purchase clothes, you may steam them yourself after washing to ensure cleanliness. Consignment shops do not wash their clothes, so you may or may not buy a freshly laundered item. If you have more of an expensive piece, like a winter coat, or fur, you’ll want to bring it to the dry cleaner. They should understand that your piece may be vintage, and fragile. This will require special care and handling. And of course, treat your new pieces with care!

Happy thrifting! Here are some of my favorite finds! Including a Burberry scarf, Louis Vuitton bag, silk blouse, and fur shawl. Like what you see? Let me know below in the comments! Looking for more outfit inspo? Check out my Shop page here.

Tights are a garment that can easily look juvenile if not styled properly. I love tights in the winter and fall seasons because besides looking super adorable, they add a layer of warmth. I’ve noticed this piece tends to look less than mature when flats are involved. Plenty of women can pull this off, I’ve seen it done. I simply cannot. There’s something about it that reminds me of grade school and I need to put on heels immediately.

Tights can be worn with shorts, dresses, skirts, and even underneath jeans. There are plenty of color and design options. Some of my favorites have intricate, detailed designs on them. I personally enjoy wearing black or navy tights with a matching outfit. This is because this color is more flattering on me, and makes my legs appear smaller. While brighter, lighter colors will often make the appearance of something being larger than it actually is.

I love wearing black tights with high waisted black shorts. A high waisted over the knee skirt will work well also. For skirts and dresses, I enjoy wearing an over the knee length. I don’t find tights necessary with midi length or longer options. Over the knee or riding boots will work perfectly with this length. As for wearing tights with jeans, I like wearing ripped jeans with a high waisted fish net tight and a crop top for a trendy look.

How often do you wear tights? Let me know below in the comments! Shop more of my looks here.

Style: Alter Ego Black Crystal Cocktail Ring

7 Charming Sisters has amazing, affordable, and super trendy jewelry. Some of my favorite options from them are rings! They have many that are as low as $7 on sale, like this Black Crystal Ring. This month I was able to get my hands on a couple favorites. The first shown is the Alter Ego Black Crystal Cocktail Ring. I love this ring because of the large, round, black design. The center features a crystal design which adds a bit more shine and interesting detail as well. I love a big statement ring because it’s so easy to accessorize with. The glittering black cocktail ring gives a vertical belt of rhinestones with an antique brass metal finish. I also adored the name to this ring, who wouldn’t want something that started with an Alter Ego? 😉

Open Faced Crystal Band Ring

The second ring I was gifted, is the Open Faced Crystal Ring Band. Consequently, I love to style this ring because it has an open-faced crystal band, which makes it more interesting and easy to layer with other pieces because of its petite size. Additionally, the crystals on the end have an opalescent affect with crystal accents. Most noteworthy, the rings mentioned are gold but pair well with silver and rose gold. This ring is currently only $17.

Turquoise Green Crystal Link Bracelet

The third piece 7 Charming Sisters kindly gifted me was their beautiful Iridescent Green Crystal Link Bracelet. The bracelet features green crystals that are almost blue. Therefore, the Crystal creates a turquoise color that shines in the sun. I also enjoy styling it with other turquoise jewelry. The bracelet offers a link clasp as well, sized accordingly to fit every wrist. Another detail of the iridescent bracelet are the fiery flashes of orange and yellow, making this a versatile piece to wear with many different colored looks! This bracelet goes for $27. Adding more versatility to every outfit, blue makes a perfect addition to winter themed looks.

Thoughts

Furthermore, I’ve never been a person who wore specific jewelry, colors, or even nail polish per season. I style my looks with different textures, patterns, or seasonally odd color choices throughout the year. This brightens my day and adds some fun into each outfit, keeping them fresh and new feeling.
