How To: All Night Long Makeup

For years I’ve struggled with makeup lasting all day instead of a few hours before getting oily and blotchy. I’ve learned a few tricks along the way that I’ll share with you below!

First things first, make sure you are washing your face, applying toner, and a good moisturizer (based on your personal skin tone) before applying any makeup. Don’t forget to wash off makeup before bed! I like to wash, rinse, repeat to make sure there isn’t any residue leftover before applying my night creams.

  1. Apply a primer – Smashbox makes a thin, smooth primer I’m in love with. I recently tried their green formula – it works about the same as their regular. A little goes a long way.
  2. Apply foundation with a makeup brush that will help blend out any lines, pores, and blemishes. I personally like Clinique’s Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer. This foundation is thicker than most liquid foundations (I normally stick to a cream), so it covers and blends well.
  3. Powder your face by blotting, not rubbing/swiping so your makeup doesn’t move. You can leave any extra on (baking) while you finish the rest of your face or only apply a small amount.
  4. I like to lightly use a setting spray once I’ve finished my face, but before mascara so that it doesn’t smudge under the eyes. I use a few sprays and focus on my T-zone. Urban Decay has worked wonders for me.
  5. Use oil absorbing sheets or a thin tissue to blot any oiliness throughout the day and reapply powder if needed.

Do you have any secrets for oily skin or makeup that lasts all day? Let me know in the comments!

Ps I also have issues of smudgy icing around the nose part of my glasses ???????? main reason I got the fixing spray

Oh yes, that’s always a problem for me when I wear glasses instead of contacts. I haven’t found anything that helps with that – I believe it’s because the glasses press down on any makeup and moves it around. I wish I could suggest something else! My contacts have been a blessing.

I guess I can become accustomed to seeing in waves more often ☺

I have combo skin oily and flaky ???? I tend to moisturise well and then use mostly matte products I still get a bit of oil and smudges so I ordered a fixing spray by Barry M… it’s also a matte.. do you think this will be enough??

The setting spray should help with your oiliness! I would recommend using a good primer before your foundation application and then a powder after foundation and before the setting spray. This is what has helped me the most! Good luck!

I have a Rimmel primer that’s more like a cream and I have a silicone one my another company that I find works a bit better

I would use the one that works better for you, I have tried drugstore primers and they don’t work as well for me personally. As for the glasses, do you see marks on your makeup while you are wearing them? I only see the marks and smudges when I take them off so I don’t worry about it too much. 🙂

I need to take mine off depending on my surroundings or if I go on a date… 3D glasses ????

Ohh I see haha, try using your finger to pat the creases gently to remove them.

I’ll try with damp fingers next time… last few times it not shifted back and adding more powder made it orange… thanks for the tips though!!
